If you do not own an automobile, then you may be entitled to PIP coverage from other vehicles if any, registered to your household at the time of the accident or from the PIP coverage for the vehicle you were occupying at the time of the accident.
Question: What is Personal Injury Protection (PIP)?
Answer: Personal Injury Protection (PIP) Benefits, also known as Florida NO-FAULT Protection is required as part of every personal automobile policy in the State of Florida. Under PIP, your policy will provide reimbursement for 80%-percent of all reasonable medical, surgical, x-ray, dental and rehabilitative services, including prosthetic devices, and medically necessary ambulance, hospital and nursing services.
In addition to the medical reimbursement listed above, your PIP insurer will provide reimbursement for 60%-percent of transportation costs to obtain medical care. PIP benefits also pay 60%-percent of loss of income and/or earning capacity due to injuries you sustain. This includes time missed from work. If you are disabled, your PIP benefits will also cover reasonable expenses incurred for ordinary and necessary services you would have performed except for the injury. Most PIP policies have a per accident maximum benefit of $10,000.
